The review of the literature on young people and alcohol was commissioned by the Health Education Authority to support the work of their alcohol programme. The remit was to undertake a literature review that would explore young people's knowledge about alcohol, their attitudes and their drinking behaviour. The age band set for the review was 11- to 24-year-olds, with the main interest in 11- to 20-year-olds. This review concentrates on research published in English since 1980 and on data and research from the UK (United Kingdom). Studies from elsewhere are included, if relevant to young people in the UK.
